Organised by the Hungarian V4 Presidency, a diplomacy seminar was held in Budapest on 9 March 2022 with the participation of experts and government officials from Japan and the V4 countries. The program aimed to introduce the multilevel collaboration of the V4 and Japan, from basic research to technological innovation. The 1st session shared views and information on the V4+Japan automotive industry, with special focus on automated driving technology, while the 2nd session introduced the collaboration via Joint call for proposals to enhance scientific cooperation on material science.

In the framework of the first panel  - following the keynote speeches of Márton Schőberl, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, H. E. Masato Otaka, Ambassador of Japan to Hungary and H. E. Norbert Palanovics, Ambassador of Hungary to Japan - Japanese and V4 projects in the fields of automated driving were introduced, also the human aspects of automated vehicles were examined by experts.

The second panel focussed on the V4+Japan Joint Research Program in avanced materials. The framework of the V4-Japan RDI cooperation and the winner projects of the 2nd call were presented (BLACKSENS, MagMAX, BGapEng, AtomDeC and PeDET). The event took place in a hybrid format, with around 200 participants.

The 2nd V4+Japan joint research programme in the field of materials sciences was launched on 15 January 2021 with the participation of the V4 supporting agencies (MEYS, NKFIH, NCBR, SAS) and the International Visegrad Fund. The 3-year international projects started on 1 November 2021 and will conclude on 31 October 2024.
