Co-organized by the Finnish NB8 and the Hungarian V4 Presidency, the 9th annual meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the Visegrad Group and Nordic-Baltic Eight was held in Vanajanlinna, Finland on 14 September 2021. During the consultation, the parties touched upon the current migration challenges, transatlantic relations, the situation in Russia and Belarus, regional infrastructure development, the Western Balkans and strategic objectives for green transition and combating climate change. The meeting was co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto and the current V4 Presidency, Hungary's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó.

The new global economic and political situation after the pandemic creates uncertainty and the common interest is to restore Europe's competitiveness. In addition, the crisis in Afghanistan is posing security challenges for our region, with increasing migratory pressure along the Western Balkan route and on the EU's eastern border. Connectivity and regular dialogue between the countries of Northern and Central Europe is an important tool of finding common solutions to these problems.
